31 Oct Wintering: How to Embrace and Grow in the Winter Months
We love Winter in Summit County, but let’s be honest, it’s a long winter out here! The days are shorter, the temps drop quickly, and the pace of life naturally slows. While it can be challenging to adjust, winter also invites us to rest, reflect, and reconnect, both with ourselves and our community.
At Summit Sol Yoga + Wellness, we believe in moving with the seasons. Just as nature retreats beneath the snow to restore and prepare for spring, we too can use this season to nurture our inner world. This is the inspiration behind our upcoming Book Club, where we’ll dive into Wintering by Katherine May. This book is a beautiful reflection on rest, resilience, and finding peace in life’s quieter seasons.
About the Book
Wintering explores the idea that, just like the natural world, we all go through our own “winters” which are periods of rest, retreat, or renewal. Instead of resisting them, author Katherine May encourages us to embrace them. Through personal stories and gentle wisdom, she reminds us that slowing down and turning inward can be deeply healing.
These themes feel especially relevant here in the mountains, where winter is long and the dark nights arrive early. It’s a time when connection, intention, and self-care become even more important.

Join Our Book Club
We’re excited to gather our community for our first Book Club meeting on Saturday, November 16th from 2:30 to 4pm. We’ll sip tea, journal, and discuss the first four chapters of Wintering together. The second and final meeting will cover the last four chapters, giving us space to reflect and set an intention for the winter ahead.
Whether you’re an avid reader or just curious to connect, everyone is welcome. You can sign up through the FitDegree app or online.
Winter Wellness at Summit Sol
As the cold sets in and the days grow shorter, it’s easy to feel disconnected or unmotivated. That’s why we encourage you to listen to your body and do what feels best for you. Maybe that means curling up with a good book, cooking nourishing meals, or slowing down your practice.
If you’re spending time on the slopes, balance your high-energy days with Yin Yoga. Yin encourages stillness and deep stretching, which can help your body recover and your mind slow down. It’s the perfect complement to skiing, snowboarding, or any winter sport, and a beautiful reminder that rest is just as valuable as movement.
We also love to keep things fun and fresh with our Wellness Wednesdays this winter. These special events are a chance to connect and explore new ways of caring for yourself beyond a traditional yoga class. And don’t forget our Après Yoga Sundays! These cozy evening classes are the perfect way to wind down the weekend.

Finding Peace in the Darkness
The darker months can feel isolating, but you’re not alone. Humans are social creatures, and community makes a world of difference during winter. At Summit Sol, you’ll find warmth not just in the studio, but in the people around you. Small moments of mindfulness and community can make the season feel lighter, softer, and even magical.
Embrace the Season
Winter is not something to simply endure. It’s an opportunity to release, reflect, and reset. Like nature, we can use this time to slow down and find strength in stillness.
Join us this season as we explore Wintering by Katherine May and learn how to grow through the quiet. Make space for yourself, sip something warm, and take time to rest.
Be well, stay cozy, and we’ll see you at Book Club.
