02 Apr New to Yoga? What to Expect at Your First Summit Sol Class
Trying something new can feel exciting and a little intimidating at the same time. If you’re new to yoga or new to Summit Sol, we want you to take a deep breath. You belong here.
At Summit Sol, our goal is simple: we want you to know you are welcomed, supported, and comfortable from the moment you walk through the door. Whether this is your very first yoga class or just your first time at our studio, here’s what you can expect.
Before You Arrive
We recommend arriving about ten minutes before class begins. This gives you time to get settled, grab your spot in the studio, gather any props you might need, use the restroom, and maybe even chat with a few fellow yogis.
Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and able to move freely. There’s no specific “yoga outfit” required. Bring a yoga mat and a water bottle if you have them. If you don’t have a mat, no worries at all. We have mats available for you to use at no additional charge.
When you walk in, you’ll be greeted by our front desk staff. They’ll check you into class and are happy to answer any questions. They know everything about Summit Sol and are there to make your experience smooth and welcoming.

Studio Etiquette and Atmosphere
In yoga, honoring time is part of practicing awareness and respect for the collective experience. We begin and end class promptly so everyone can settle in fully and practice together. For this reason, we are not able to allow late arrivals into the studio. You can read more about the reasoning behind this policy here.
Shoes are welcome in the lobby area, but we ask that they are removed before entering the studio space. This helps keep the space clean and comfortable for everyone.
We also ask that phones remain in the lobby and not come into the studio. Our intention is to cultivate a calm, present atmosphere where everyone can fully disconnect and focus inward. Phones can be a distraction, and we want this hour to feel like a reset for you.
The studio itself is not heated, but we do keep the studio warm to allow your muscles and body to practice safely. You can expect stunning mountain views that make the space feel open, peaceful, and inspiring.
What Happens During Class
Every class begins a little differently depending on the teacher and the style of class. Some may start with gentle grounding, others with breath awareness or light movement. What remains consistent is that our classes are thoughtful and intentional.
Summit Sol focuses on alignment-based yoga, which means we prioritize safe, mindful movement. Teachers offer alignment cues, modifications, and support so you can move in a way that feels sustainable for your body. The goal is not to push or strain, but to build strength, awareness, and confidence over time.
If you have any injuries, health concerns, or limitations, we encourage you to let your instructor know before class begins. They are happy to offer modifications throughout class to help you feel safe and supported.
Most importantly, everything in class is a suggestion. You are always welcome to rest. You can move at your own pace. You can modify, skip a pose, or take child’s pose at any time. This is your practice.

The Summit Sol Vibe
If we had to describe Summit Sol in three words, we would say warm, friendly, and supportive.
What truly makes our studio special is our community. We lovingly call our members “Sol Mates,” and that sense of connection is real. We are a judgment-free space that welcomes all ages and ability levels. Whether you are 18 or 80, brand new or experienced, you will find space here.
Beyond weekly classes, we offer workshops and even member-led events that deepen connection and bring people together in meaningful ways. Summit Sol is more than a studio. It is a community. Our staff and teachers are here to support you. Every person on our team wants you to feel welcomed with open arms. If you have questions, need guidance, or just want reassurance, we are here.
Come As You Are
You do not need to be flexible.
You do not need to know the poses.
You do not need to look a certain way.
You simply need to show up.
Starting something new takes courage, and we honor that. Whether you’re stepping onto the mat for the first time or returning after time away, we are here to support you every step of the way. We can’t wait to meet you!
